Sam Okoth Opondo is Associate Professor in Political Science and Africana Studies at Vassar College N.Y. His research on colonial and postcolonial mediation of estrangement looks at the often-overlooked amateur diplomacies of everyday life, biopolitics and humanitarian governance, postcolonial cities, ethics, and cultural translation in Africa and its diasporas. He is the author of Diplomatic Para-citations: Genre, Foreign Bodies, and the Ethics of Co-habitation (Rowman & Littlefield, Forthcoming 2021) and co-edited (with Michael J. Shapiro) The New Violent Cartography: Geo-Analysis After the Aesthetic Turn ( Routledge, 2012). Dr. Opondo is also a contributing editor and member of the International Editorial Board of the Sage Handbook of Diplomacy and serves on the Editorial Council of Contexto Internacional: Journal of Global Connections.
